Who knew Canada’s Perfect Supermodel was strutting the catwalk at the recent Decadent Pink event?
Fort McMurrayite Alexandria Wiemer, will be representing Wood Buffalo, and the country, as Canada’s Perfect Supermodel at an international competition in August.
Wiemer, regional director of Wood Buffalo Pageants and local model seen at events like Decadent Pink and Global Glamour, learned the news in January.
“I was greatly surprised because that is not what I was expecting at all,” said Wiemer, whose last pageant stint was at Canada Galaxy in 2009.
As Canada’s Perfect Supermodel, Wiemer will go on to the international level of competition, held in Orlando, Fla. She will be going up against other contestants from around the world for the title of international America’s Perfect Miss for women between the ages of 20-29.
Others will be competing for titles the international title of America’s Perfect Jr.
Teen (ages 13-15), America’s Perfect Teen (ages 16-19) and America’s Perfect Woman (ages 30-plus).
The Perfect Pageant system is more of a fashion show than a pageant in the traditional sense, explained Wiemer, adding that their motto is “you define perfection.”
This year is the first time Canada and Puerto Rico have been involved. They join the United States and Europe in this annual pageant.
Contestants will be competing in swimwear, fashion wear and evening wear. There is also a panel interview.
“This competition is about showcasing who you are and celebrating yourself.”
Canada’s Perfect Pageant was slated to take place a week after the international competition in August, and as a result, the director created an application process to select women to send to the international competition.
Next year will see this country’s first Perfect stage pageant. The Supermodel title can be awarded to anyone from the four age categories.
“Alexandria was crowned Canada’s Perfect Supermodel 2012, because she has the most fantastic combination of modeling experience, combined with a well-rounded pageant background, and with the addition of her obvious beauty and photogenic qualities…she is the perfect candidate to represent Canada’s Perfect Pageant at the finals,” said a representative from Canada’s Perfect Pageant head office.
The Ontario-native and self-proclaimed tomboy entered her first pageant in 2008. After moving to Calgary, she began researching modelling opportunities—something outside her comfort zone—and stumbled across the link for Miss Universe Canada. She applied on a whim to the regional director and was accepted as one of 12 women for Alberta to compete at the national competition.
Wiemer, 28, said she hopes her involvement in the Perfect Pageant encourages local women to get involved at a community level, through Wood Buffalo Pageants, which has four categories: Teen, Miss, Ms. and Mrs., dependent on the entrant’s age, marital status and whether she’s had a child or not.
“I want to show that you’re never too old to try something new and celebrate yourself.”
The international Perfect Pageant takes place Aug. 6-12 in Orlando, Fla.
